Project Joy

Project Joy began in the spring of 2010 when volunteers came together with a common goal of bringing joy to the hearts of children at Whaley Children’s Center.  With this mission and a goal to brighten all walls with color and fill space with toys and games, we embarked on the Project Joy campaign.  To date, 18 of the 48 children’s bedrooms have received makeovers and our family game room has undergone a complete transformation – it now hosts bright colored walls, new carpet, a library, and ample play equipment that provides a bright den for children to heal and grow.
Family Game Room

Phase 1:

Our Optimist, Kiwanis and Zonta group homes underwent bedroom makeovers in the spring of 2010.

Phase 2:

In the winter 2012, we broke ground on the renovation of our family game room. We raised $30,000 while Baker College interior design students planned the design and décor of this common space. Throughout the summer, construction crews and our staff worked to transform a once bare family room to a vibrant den for the children to enjoy. The family game room was completed in February 2013.

Phase 3

The next phases of Project Joy include renovations to our dining room, parlor, and 24 bedrooms inside the Mott Residence.  Each bedroom costs approximately $1,500 to renovate, while the dining room and parlor will cost an estimated $20,000.
