Mott Residence, Residential Treatment Program
The Mott Residence is located on the main campus of Whaley Children’s
Center, 1201 N. Grand Traverse St., Flint, MI 48506. It is a state
of the art facility that opened in 1991, consisting of a large commercial
kitchen, large meeting/conference room, family room and three self-contained
cottages named McDonald, Vemco, and Johnson. Each of the cottages has
single bedrooms, laundry, living room, dining room, library, and a
small kitchen.
This residential program offers an intensive treatment
program for boys and girls between the ages of 6 and 14. McDonald Cottage
is a specialized “Young Child” unit for boys and girls
between the ages of 6 and 10. The focus of the young child unit is
to help them learn to be more child-like and age appropriate and rekindle
their child-like curiosity and zest for life. Johnson and Vemco Cottages
units both are general population of children, boys and girls between
the ages of 6 and 14. The children are provided clinical, educational
and psychiatric services. Children residing at the Mott Residence also
participate in milieu groups and various recreational activities: bowling,
basketball, roller skating, swimming, etc.
There are several volunteer
groups that sponsor birthday parties for the cottages, read to the
children and provide other activities.
