Independent Living Plus
Who We Treat.
Our Independent Living Program (ILP) supports youth ages 16-19 transitioning from foster care to adulthood. Designed for self-motivated individuals with independent living potential, the program offers private bedrooms, shared spaces, and 16+ hours of daily staff support in ILP homes. Youth receive guidance in independent living skills, educational and vocational opportunities, and case management services based on their individual needs and as determined by a Casey Life Skills Assessment.
Eligible youth must meet the following requirements:
16-19 years of age
Not initially appropriate for general IL foster care
Successfully leaving residential foster care and cannot return home
Cannot be placed into a family foster home and adoption is not planned
Demonstrate a capacity for and willingness to learn independent living skills in a supported, structured setting prior to transitioning into another living arrangement
Be self-motivated and demonstrate self-care potential, as they are responsible for taking public transportation to school/work, taking their own medications, etc.
Youth must be in placement, care, and supervision of MDHHS
For YAVFC, youth must be referred through MDHHS
Be employed full-time, actively involved in job training or continuing education, or a combination of employment and education
