Our Approach To Specialized Care
Who We Treat.
Whaley Children’s Center is a mental health and behavioral stabilization program for youth in the foster care system ages 5-17 who have not been receptive to traditional interventions and treatment and are in need of a higher level of care.
Common mental health symptomatology and behaviors we treat are:
Extremely aggressive or defiant behaviors
Problematic sexualized behaviors
Emotional disturbance and co-occurring medical conditions
Suicidal and self-harming behaviors
Psychotic symptoms and behaviors
Chronic runaway behaviors with a high risk of harm to self or others
DSM-V diagnosable mental health disorders
How We Treat.

At Whaley Children’s Center, our goal is to stabilize youth, empower them to overcome their trauma, and equip them with the skills necessary to thrive in a less restrictive placement within 6-9 months.
During their admission, youth will progress through our “Tree of Empowerment” which encompasses both mental and behavioral health treatment. Services offered to support this vision are as follows:
Weekly individual and group therapy with Master-level therapists
Psychiatric services and oversight by a licensed psychiatrist
Regular mindfulness and meditation offerings with our certified yoga instructor
Daily recreational therapy and behavioral incentives
On-grounds education through our partnership with Lansing Learning Hub
Family inclusion, coaching, and support
